New dwelling in East Yorkshire conservation area.
The Walkington Conservation Area document states that “The village integrates into the surrounding countryside as a result of the gradual transition from countryside to built form. The village has both the sense of openness with its dispersed buildings set back within boundaries, and areas of open land; and also a sense of enclosure formed by sunken roads, boundaries, hedges and trees”.
The new dwelling is located on the edge of the village and raised above the main street running through. The new dwelling includes a separate garage and stable block with a manège and exercise area for the clients’ horses. The use of large chimney stacks ensures a unique presence within the countryside setting.
The opportunity to design a dwelling with the grandeur the new property will have when completed is a rare and infrequent occurrence for many architects, and privilege to design and detail.
